Not every colored pressing is decoration. This week, three of them actually mean something.
Clipse paid seven figures to walk away from Def Jam rather than censor a verse, self-released Let God Sort Em' Out through Roc Nation instead, and picked up a sixteen-year-old conversation like it never stopped. DJ Drama spent a decade hosting everyone else's mixtapes before finally making his own turn, I'm Really Like That reads like a roll call of everyone he championed along the way, Tyler, The Creator included, who's credited guesting on Drama's own tapes as part of what pushed him toward this record in the first place.
And then there's De La Soul. Cabin in the Sky is their first album since losing Dave "Trugoy the Dove" Jolicoeur, built as a direct tribute to him, grief turning into rhythm the way De La has always processed things. This particular pressing is a genuine Marvel Comics collaboration, original cover art, not a licensing gimmick.
