Before she ever played a set, Tasha Guevara was going through her uncles' records at family gatherings in Brooklyn, studying the labels and covers, and eventually helping them spin at family functions. What she didn't realize yet was that she was learning how one record can change the energy of a room.

She started DJing professionally in 2001 and never stayed in one lane: brand events for Vogue, Citibank, and Donna Karan, sets in Italy, India, and Hong Kong, theater sound design, acting, and years as a teaching artist in New York City schools. Through all of it, she's been asking the same question: what does the audience need from me at this moment?

Our seventh Collector Spotlight is one of the most thoughtful yet. Tasha talks about why a corporate event and a nightclub use different muscles, how acting taught her to stay present behind the decks, and why physical records build a different kind of relationship with music.

From the Crate

"Physical collections encourage a different kind of relationship with music. You don't just consume it, you live with it."

DJ Tabu, on why vinyl is finding a new generation.

One More Thing

Tasha closed with two picks from Chicago's next generation, Janesita and Sunshine Rewind, plus a bigger ask: spotlight the women DJs, Caribbean DJs, vinyl-era veterans, mobile DJs, and radio DJs who built scenes before anyone was watching. We agree. If someone comes to mind, hit reply and tell us who.
