The Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast just launched, produced by Merric Studios, and Episode 1 is the origin story. DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One, and Lboogs: all four in the room, breaking down where the crew came from, how it grew, and what it actually means to carry that name.

If you have been reading mixtapekings.com from the beginning, you already know why this one is personal for us. Kast One and Lboogs were on the Sirius radio show in 2005. Kast One hosted and mixed MixtapeKings Radio Vol. 1. Enuff is in the Special Thanks on that tape for a reason. These are not names we drop for credibility. These are people who helped build this thing when it was just a show and a crew with something to say.

Episode 1 goes into Enuff's origin, including his very first club booking in New York and what they offered to pay him. He would have done it for free. He says that, and you believe it. There is the story of how Lboogs and Kast One ended up as college roommates with turntables in the room, and a night at Hofstra University that changed the direction of at least one career. There is the Kast One setup story that you need to hear for yourself. And there is real talk about what the collective actually is: not just a crew of hot DJs, but a network, a resource, a fraternal structure that has been protecting and elevating its members for over twenty years.

Lboogs says they are the best DJ crew on the planet. Two decades of work behind that statement makes it land.

"The hustle is still there, but the actual methods of delivery have changed."

One More Thing

This week we are pausing to acknowledge the passing of DJ Lady Chellez, born Michelle Melendez, who passed away on April 23, 2026, at 41 years old. She was killed in a car accident.

Lady Chellez was a Brooklyn-born, Queens-based DJ and a trailblazer in every sense of the word. She came up hosting Tony Touch mixtapes and grinding her way from phone operator to the first sole female Power Mixer on Power 105.1. She mentored younger DJs, especially women trying to find their footing in a scene that did not always make space for them. She showed up for her city and for her community without ego and without hesitation.

She was 41. Gone way too soon. Rest in peace to the Mixxtress.
